First Friday Art Walk: Natalie Hoch

Children's book authors Natalie Hoch and Evelyn Gurr will showcase their art alongside their newest book, Mood Ocean. There might even be a special reading in store!

Natalie Hoch lives with her husband and two children near the sea outside Portland, Maine. As an artist, decorative painter, and illustrator, she finds great joy in exploring nature's patterns. Much of the inspiration for Mood Ocean comes from the beaches she’s visited throughout her life, including Martha's Vineyard, Long Island, Florida, California, and especially the Maine coast, where she now resides.

Evelyn Gurr also lives with her family on the coast of Maine. She works for an international organization, traveling the globe to protect the environment. With a deep love for nature, she once lived in a home that was perched on the world's edge, surrounded by the ocean.

First Friday Art Walk: Ange Muhorakeye

Born in a refugee camp in Burundi, Rwanda, Ange learned the art of basket weaving from both her nyogokuru (grandmother) and mama (mother).

Five years ago, Ange made the decision to leave Rwanda and move to the United States. At the airport in Rwanda, Ange’s mother passed to her a package of grasses with a needle and thread, and sent her off with the parting words of “Do not forget our culture.”

Join us in our Taproom to learn about Ange and her craft!
